What is the 100 Man Run?
The 100 Man Run is a breast cancer fund raising initiative. The theme of the project is “Good Men Running for Great Women”. All money raised goes to support the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation. Each of our team members wears a pink running shirt making for what we believe to be a striking visual. It represents a sign of solidarity as we run shoulder to shoulder for the cause.
The 100 Man Run project was inspired after the realization that there were no male dominate teams participating in the CIBC Run For A Cure.
Our mission is simple in nature. It is all about “Good Men Running for Great Women”. The 100 Man Run fundraising initiative supports the CIBC Run for the Cure and the many women who are fighting the good fight against breast cancer.
The team made its debut in October 2006 and the men in pink will once again lace up their running shoes for the 2009 edition of the CIBC Run for the Cure on October 4th, 2009.Our goal is to raise $25,000.00 in support of the women in our lives.
The 100 Man Run has evolved into a unique and highly recognized fundraising vehicle that continues to grow. The initiative now includes The 100 Man Police Escort Run, The 100 Man Run Survivor Spa Day and coming up on August 13th the first annual Birdies for Boobies 100 Man Run Golf Tournament.
After we experienced a loss of one of our dear friends Michéle Brown it became personal. We asked her husband to describe her like no one else could .....
"When I was asked to write something about Michéle for the first time in my life I was at a loss for words. Not because I didn't have a lot of things to say but because there was so much to say. For 17 years I had the pleasure of being around the most amazing person I have ever met in my life, she was a great friend, a beautiful and caring Mother and the most dedicated and loyal wife a man could have ever wished for. She was truly my best friend.
Michéle was diagnosed with Breast Cancer in September 2005 and for 2 years while fighting this disease she lived her life like she always had. She smiled and laughed like she always had, she cared for her family like she always had, she was a good friend to so many like she always had been and she did it gracefully. Throughout this tough time in her life she never complained or asked anyone to feel sorry for her and she continued to put the other people in her life first. And in those 2 years I realized how truly blessed I was to have this woman in my life She had a smile, laugh and personality that could light up a room and that very smile and radiant personality can be seen everyday in her 2 children. So when we think of Michéle lets remember her smile, her laugh, her bright pink lipstick and most importantly the way she touched the lives of those that had the pleasure of being around her".
Along with the October 4th run we will be playing host to a Breast Cancer Survivor Spa Day at Saab Spa on Bank Street on September 29th and a police escorted run on October 2nd that would begin during lunch hour making our way through the downtown core en route to City Hall. The police escorted run will be led by the chief of police and a number of breast cancer survivors and our 100 Man Run team. If you would like to join our team, please email us for more information.
